For children with complex SEND issues that affect cognition, our SEND programme uses the graduated approach. Developed with special school members, including our Little Wandle Champion School, Willow Dene, the programme includes fully inclusive content so children can see themselves in the resources they use.
Graduated approach
Our grapheme-by-grapheme planning for all phases allows you to approach the learning at a pace that’s right for each child. Planning for oral blending is accompanied by images. We also provide a fully searchable bank of engaging, inclusive images so that the right visual prompt for what you are teaching is only ever a click away!
Support
Our SEND programme includes specific training, guidance and ‘How to’ and reading practice session videos. All content has been developed with, and often features, our special school members. Our lively half-termly SEND Forum is a place for members using the SEND programme to network and share ideas. It’s also where members can feed back directly to Little Wandle programme developers with ideas for further developments.
Our SEND programme resources mirror the core programme and are broken down into small steps to support the graduated approach. Video and picture content has been thoughtfully curated to ensure that pupils with SEND can see themselves in the resources they use.
Supporting you to focus on the teaching of GPCs in small steps, with a separate lesson plan for each GPC.
Grids to be used flexibly once the children have secured the relevant GPCs and are beginning to blend.
Curated images to be used alongside each oral blending grid.
